DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n  \n \nREGISTRARSE\nAbout the panel:\nLinda Russell\, M.A. LMFT (she/her) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over twenty years\, Linda is the Care Coordinator and one of the Integrated Behavioral Health providers at the John Muir Family Residency Program in Walnut Creek. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Fordham University (NY) and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill\, CA.  Early training focused on working with emotionally disturbed children and their families – in San Francisco and in Marin City.  She shifted to working with substance use and HIV with a community agency in the East Bay\, then moved to Public Health\, with the Contra Costa CountyAIDS Program.  Eventually becoming a Medical Social Worker at CC Regional In Martinez\, Linda worked both in the hospital and the PH clinics\, first with HIV services\, and later with Oncology and Palliative Care. She received the Ruth Pease Award\, an annual recognition by medical staff to a non-physician for their dedication to patient care.  Palliative Care is one of Linda’s passions\, teaching patients and families to have the difficult conversations at sensitive times in their lives\, centering the patient’s voice and widening the involvement and participation of their support network.  She is faculty (non-core) at the residency program and Co-Chair of the Diversity\, Equity\, Inclusion and Advocacy Committee at the residency.  She recently began a small private practice. \n\nPatricia E. Craven\, LMFT\, SEP\, CFRC\, has held myriad roles\, in both her personal and professional life. She has provided psychotherapy\, counseling\, training and support to people in various communities. In the Bay Area since 1978. During this time\, she has held a strong commitment to understanding and addressing issues in people’s lives through a social justice lens. How well she has done such has been informed and at times limited by her own identity as a white\, cisgender queer female\, raised in a multi-racial poor/working class home. She has been acutely aware of how one’s position in society impacts the experience of mental health and the receiving of mental health services. Patricia is the Co-Founder and recently retired Executive Director at Heart in Balance Counseling and Training Center in Oakland. She founded this agency in 2004\, to provide affordable and sliding scale services from an Integrative approach to psychotherapy and to support and training up and coming psychotherapist to hold a integrative and social justice model in working with clients. \n\nCris Avila\, LMFT\, is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist serving the Bay Area since 2009. Cris Avila practices from a Transpersonal Somatic orientation and has worked in diverse settings and populations ranging from providing therapy in preschool setting\, school day treatment program\, in community based agencies\, has worked with adults in crisis stabilization program and in outpatient-hospital mental health department setting. Cris Avila is currently in private practice and specializes in healing from trauma. Cris was born in the United States of Mexico and came to the United States of America as a teenager. Cris was raised Catholic but found profound spiritual connection with Andean cosmovision and ancestral practices both from Peru and Mesoamerica.

This event is hosted by Faith in Action East Bay in partnership with Islamic Networks Group.  \nFeaturing: \n\nPersonal Reflections with Moina Shaiq\nGetting to Know Muslim Americans and Their Faith with Maha Elgenaidi\nStructural Racism Impacting Muslim Americans with Tabassum Haleem\n\nThere will be breakout discussions and a Q&A session. Zoom. Spanish translation will be provided. \nREGISTER \nTabassum Haleem\, Executive Director \nTabassum oversees operations and programs at ING. Tabassum holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago\, Master of Public Policy and Master of Arts from the University of Chicago and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). Tabassum serves on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Board of LGC’s Leadership Fellows Association. Tabassum is a recipient of the Minorities in Public Policy Studies Alumni Award from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy\, a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow\, and a McCormick Tribune Urban Policy Leadership Fellow. She has served on the Board of Trustees for the Naperville Education Foundation (NEF) and as a co-Chair for DuPage United\, a community organizing group\, and on the Advisory Committee for the Naperville Chamber of Commerce-Green Leadership Council. \nMaha Elgenaidi\, Founder and Innovation Director \nMaha is the founder of ING and oversees the organization’s development and content.  She is the author of training handbooks on outreach for American Muslims as well as training seminars for public institutions on developing cultural competency with the American Muslim community. She received an M.A. in religious studies from Stanford University and B.A in political science and economics from the American University in Cairo. She has taught classes on Islam in the modern world in universities such as the University of California at Santa Cruz\, and has been recognized with numerous awards\, including the “Civil Rights Leadership Award” from the California Association of Human Relations Organizations\, the “Citizen of the Year Award” from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors\, and the “Dorothy Irene Height Community Award” from the NAACP-Silicon Valley. She’s currently an advisor for the CA Commission on Police Officers Standards and Training (POST)\, a member of the Council of Advisors for the Freedom Forum that helps shape American views on the First Amendment; the County of Santa Clara’s Hate Crimes Task Force; and\, the Ethnic Studies Committee of ARUSD in San Jose\, CA. \nMoina Shaiq\, Community Leader \nMoina Shaiq\, a 40 year resident of Fremont\, mother of 4\, has been involved in different ways in our city. She has served as a Human Relations Commissioner\, Historic Architectural Review Board for the City. She is the founder of Muslim Support Network\, serving Muslim seniors connect with resources. She also founded the Muslim Spiritual Care Program at Kaiser Fremont. More recently\, she founded Meet a Muslim Conversations to dispel misunderstanding\, misconceptions and stereotypes against Islam and Muslims. She is the recipient of several awards for her relentless work in the community.

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a shared experience of growing our capacity to be effective leaders and organizers. Join us at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday\, January 27 on Zoom for conflict resolution training with Wester Justice Center’s Arturo Magaña. In this 90-minute session\, you are going to learn skills and tools to become a better organizer and better person. \nWhen we are doing advocacy we can sometimes become very narrow minded. Learn about having two-way conversations while advocating for your own position. Learn how to connect and build empathy\, convey emotion well\, be an active listener\, and collaborate with and activate change with one another. \nArturo Magaña is the Conflict Resolution Education Programs Coordinator at Western Justice Center. He has over 10 years working in public schools in Los Angeles County\, assisting after school programs\, community school systems\, and guidance and support for foster youth. He served as the Co-Chair for the Institute for Educational Leadership’s Coordinators’ Network\, where he worked alongside other Community School Coordinators across the country and Canada on educational equity initiatives.
