980 Block Party

Be part of the 980 Block Party on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Preservation Park — a one-day gathering dedicated to healing, storytelling, and reimagining the future of the I-980 corridor.

The 980 freeway displaced hundreds of families and cut through the heart of West Oakland. Now, we have a chance to come together — honoring the past while building a collective vision for the future.

Participants will move through a “time portal” that connects history, current realities, and future possibilities, with a powerful mix of hands-on activities, storytelling, and visioning:

• Large-Scale Site Mapping

• Physical 3-D and Digital Modeling

• Steamroller Art Block Printing

• Oral History Circles & Storytelling

• Mini Media Festival

• Facilitated Discussions (Youth, Housing, Economic Development, Health, Cultural Arts, Transportation, Parks, Youth, Seniors, Policy/Legislation)

• Institutional Harm Illustrations curated by Hodari Davis of Edutainment for Equity

• Resident Profiles & Quotes Installation

• Data Stations on the Quantification of Actual Harm (Goldman School grad students)

One of the most important parts of the Block Party will be our discussion circles, where community members will share stories, ideas, and visions on key topics such as:

• Housing and displacement prevention

• Jobs, small businesses, and economic opportunity

• Parks, recreation, and transportation

• Arts and cultural preservation

• Power building and governance
