a training by Bolder Advocacy
Have you wondered why there’s so much buzz around down-ballot races this election season?
Chats for Changemakers is a gathering for California nonprofit advocates to swap practical tips, tricks, words to the wise, and lessons learned about nonprofits engaging in the 2022 election. This isn’t a legal training from Bolder Advocacy — it is a cross-issue space for nonprofit advocates to learn from and connect with each other. Will you join us?
If you want to see changes in your community, pay attention to down-ballot races. “Down-ballot” refers to state or local races that appear further down on a voter’s ballot than a presidential race. While the outcomes of these down-ballot races are often influenced by the turnout for the top of the ballot, the consequences are more direct. For example, state and local governments control schools, policing, and public health policies.
501(c)(3)s cannot support or oppose anyone running for office on the ballot. However, they, along with other nonprofits can educate voters and their communities on the importance of these down-ballot positions (Secretary of State, District Attorney, school boards, elections administrators, and many more).
Come have a conversation with us about what your nonprofit is doing or can do from now until election day!
