Oakland and Richmond, California – Two Interfaith Immigration Vigils will take place on Thursday and Friday of this week, February 20-21. Both vigils will include elected officials, community leaders, and clergy, reflecting Faith in Action East Bay’s organizing scope in both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
At 5 p.m. Thursday, February 20, participants will gather at Fruitvale Village Plaza (near Fruitvale BART Station), 3401 E 12th Street, Oakland, and march to St. Anthony’s Church, 1535 16th Avenue, Oakland. A vigil will take place at St. Anthony’s Church.
Participants will celebrate and uplift their diverse voices in solidarity and support of our immigrant communities that may be facing increased threats of ICE raids and deportation.
In addition, at 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, February 21, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church Gym, 159 Harbor Way, Richmond, religious and political leaders will hold a vigil in support and protection of our immigrant families. This will be a first step toward advocating for a county-level policy with strong language of protection for immigrants. Leaders and congregations from all faith traditions are invited to attend.
Media representatives are invited.
