The second annual Guns to Gardens was a success! In total, 42 guns were surrendered on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Leaders came from the following communities: Guns to Gardens, First Covenant Church Oakland, Moms Demand Action, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Faith in Action East Bay, Brady, First Presbyterian Stockton, First Presbyterian Alameda, Resurrection Pleasant Hill, VPC, West Oakland Neighborhood Association, Kehilla Community Synagogue.
The following folks were also present: Mayor Sheng Thao and team, Councilmember Dan Kalb, District 7 Representative Treva Reid, former District 6 representative Loren Taylor, and Inspector General and Michelle Phillips.
This event would not have happened without the support of the Oakland Police Department; we’re grateful for everything they did in the months and weeks leading up to the event, as well as the day of.
As well, we’re grateful for the partnership with the Neighborhood Services in the City of Oakland, especially Judy Christopher: she got us in front of numerous groups of neighbors to help us spread the word.
