It’s a LOC! You Are the Key.

LOC (‘el-oh-cee’) stands for Local Organizing Committee and it’s how we change the world.

We invite you to change the world with us.

We organize in faith communities. At each one, we cultivate at least 10 committed participants to show leadership. A group of power-building leaders at a house of worship is called an LOC. And they are the key to building power and changing systems so that everyone has equity in housing, jobs, education, access to health care, and vibrant, safe communities where all are welcome.

OUR RECIPE FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGE:

1 professional organizer + 1 house of worship +10 volunteer leaders = Systemic change on the issues most important to their communities.

  • For one LOC that might mean working with our Ceasefire initiative that has reduced gun deaths in Oakland by 50% since 2012.
  • Another LOC might focus on fair housing and eviction legislation in their town.
  • Others might join our illegal dumping campaign that successfully forced the City of Oakland to address the massive illegal dumping problem disproportionately impacting neighborhoods of color.

YOUR DONATION CAN UNLOCK THAT POWER

The It’s a LOC Campaign will support the formation of new LOCs.

You can change the world by supporting the development of new LOCs. Every five new LOCs translates into at least 50 trained leaders acting powerfully, dynamically, and intentionally to impact critical issues in their communities.

Your donation will support:

  • Training new leaders to take action and impact systemic change.
  • Staging powerful meetings with local legislators (often attended by 100+ constituents communicating their pain and their clear vision for changes in their community).
  • Building a network of multi-faith, multi-ethnic leaders working together to create communities where everyone belongs and everyone’s humanity is respected.
