Domingo Delgadillo is a living manifestation of the good that can happen when people choose to immigrate for a better life.

His mother is from El Salvador and his father came from Mexico. They raised their children in Oakland with values of hard work and education. Domingo had a Catholic education at St. Louis Bertrand School, Bishop O’Down High School, and University of San Francisco. He received an MBA from UCLA.

“I received a lot of blessings in my life,” he said.” I know God’s hand is in my life. I believe it is important to help those who are less fortunate.”

“I believe it is important to help those who are less fortunate.”

Domingo became a financial analyst and shares his gifts as treasurer of the Board of Faith in Action East Bay. He is currently in his second term. He became involved with community organizing in 2008 with Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization (CCISCO) where he helped mobilize as part of a national response to the mortgage crisis. He also served as treasurer on the CCISCO Board.

“I had been working in real estate and I felt I should do something to help fix the mess,” he recalled.

He continues work on the current housing crisis with his parish of Most Holy Rosary in Antioch. He is also helping with the immigration forums, serving an an interpreter. His wife is French so he is very familiar with the naturalization process. They have a daughter who lives in New York and leads a program to provide educational opportunities to the incarcerated.

Domingo sees the current challenge at Faith in Action East Bay as having so much work to do with few organizers. Yet the work is happening because of the leaders.

“What gives me hope are the organizers and the leaders,” he said. “The leaders really are the organization.”
